10th December 2018 - AGM and Christmas Party 

Sixteen people turned out to enjoy the fun and partake of the cheese, cake and wine. Our patron Henry Andrews was among the attendees and this resulted in some useful and informative discussions.

17th November - Fix the Leak

David Buckley and Roger Gage attended Aston Villa Football Club for this event, which was organised by Prostate Cancer UK. It covered treatments for urinary side effects following treatment for prostate cancer.

29th October - Presentation by Sue Bowering of Carers MK

​Sue treated us to an excellent presentation on the work of Carers MK in the community. The meeting concluded with an open forum to discuss and exchange experiences with diagnosis and treatment of prostate problems.

6th October - Our Annual PSA Blood Test Event took place at the Fishermead Trinity Centre

Sixty-eight men turned up to be tested. A big thank you to all who helped at this event.

 

30th July - An update on cancer services and care at MKUH

Sally Burnie, Head of Cancer Services.Milton Keynes University Hospital, gave a presentation on progress of the new cancer centre. She was accompanied by Sophie Austin, Specialist Cancer Dietician, and Angela Shelrick, Recovery Manager. The three presentations led to a lively discussion and Q & A session.

18th June - The Dark Side of the Genome and the latest research into Liquid Biopsy diagnosis for Prostate Cancer

Rebecca Mather from the Open University gave a presentaion on current developments. This was very well received, although attendance was depleted, probably owing to the Soccer World Cup. However all agreed that it would be worthwhile to have a follow up presentation in a year's time.

 

12th June - Tackle AGM in Edgbaston,Birmingham

David and Maria Buckley and Martin and Mo Bell represented MKPCS at this event.

9th May - Awareness Presentation for Newport Pagnell Rotary Club

Presented by Sam Younan and David Buckley.

7th May - Leighton Buzzard & Linslade May Day Fayre

We again took part in this event to promote awareness of prostate cancer. Thanks to all who helped us to manage the stall.

3 May 2018, at 4:30pm - Meet and Chat Event

This provided an opportunity for members to get together and talk about their experiences and feelings about prostate cancer in a relaxed environment.

 

30th April 2018 - Man MOT and Exercise

5th February 2018 - Visit to Pathology Labs at Milton Keynes University Hospital

17 People joined the visit to see how Prosate Biopsies and PSA Blood Tests are carried out.

February 2018 - PCUK/Tackle Good Practice Workshops

Two workshops were organised during the month. Sam Younan and Martin Bell contributed to the one in London and Maria and David Buckley contributed to the Manchester event. These workshops were a platform for support groups to share their thughts and experiences. The presentations and discussions gave us many insights into other groups. At each of the venues

Monday 12th March 2018,  2:30 - 4:30 pm - Current Prostate Cancer Research

Presented by Professor Andrew Protheroe,Co-director Clinical Research Network, Thames Valley and South Midlands

Associate Professor in Urology and Consultant in Medical Oncology.

The meeting was also addressed by Roger Wotton, Chairman of Tackle, who gave information on his recent activities and introduced Tackle's fundraising campaign, Cycle to the Moon.

Maria Buckley resigned from the Committee at the end of June owing to ill health. At the evening meeting on 18th June, our Chairman, Sam Younan, made a presentation to Maria to mark her four years of hard work in setting up and helping to run the group. We all wish her well in her journey towards a full recovery.
