11th December 2017 - AGM and Christmas Party 

Despite the wintry weather, over 25 people turned out to enjoy the fun and partake of the cheese and wine. Music was provided by saxophonist Alan Wakeman.

23rd October 2017 - Tea Party at Laker's Nursery near Great Horwood

​An afternoon Tea Party was held to enable members and their friends to meet informally and exchange experiences. The cost was £5 per person, after being subsidised by the group. Thanks to Christiana Lewis for making all the arrangements and for the extra donations made by the attendees.

7th October 2017 - PSA test event in Wolverton Christian Foundation

MKPCS organised this event in association with the Graham Fulford Charitable Trust.

One hundred men attended for testing - a very gratifying turnout. Ten of these men were subsequently advised

to consult their GPs (seven "red" letters and three "amber" letters).

Many thanks to the twelve volunteers who helped ensure the success of this event, which was supported by funding from the MK Community Foundation.

12 September 2017 - Healthwatch Health and Social Care Event, CMK

​As in previous years we took the opportunity to join with other participating groups and organisations with the purpose of informing the public of our objectives and activities and to distribute leaflets about prostate cancer. Thank you to all who helped at this event.

20th August 2017 - Freemasons PSA test event in Bletchley

Martin Bell, Fred Mercer, Edward Neal and David Buckley manned an information stall on behalf of our group.

10 July 2017 - Presentation by our Patron Henry Andrews, Consultant Urology Surgeon at MK University Hospital

Henry updated us on Focal Treatments for Prostate Cancer

13 June 2017​ - Tackle AGM in Birmingham

Martin and Mo Bell attended on our behalf. Slides used at the AGM can be found on the Tackle Website.

17 May 2017 - Presentations by Peter Gosling (PCUK Services Representative and Tonina Asby of Tollers Solicitors (evening meeting)

​Peter updated us on the latest developments in PCUK and gave some suggestions for the furtherence of our group. Ms Ashby gave us a very clear and thought-provoking presentation on the subject of Wills, Trusts and Powers of Attorney

17 May 2017 - Shenley Wood Village Wellbeing Day

​We manned a stall for the Village's annual Wellbeing Event.

 

​1May 2017 - MKPCS Awareness event road show in Leighton Buzzard High Street.

Bedford Group kindly lent us their gazebo to to enable us to put on this event at the May Fayre organised by the Leighton Buzzard Linslade Rotary Club. A good response from the public helped us to meet our objectives to promote awareness. Donations totalled £120. Thanks to Martin Bell, Fred Mercer, Ken Lambert, Sam Younan, George Conchie and David and Maria Buckley for their help.

 

​28 March 2017 - Patient Symposium at Excel Conference Centre in London, organised by Tackle.

Sam Younan, Martin Bell and David and Maria Buckley represented MKPCS at this event. The programme covered developments in prostate cancer diagnosis and teatment, bone health after hormone treatment, engaging men in health messages and approaches to PSA testing.

 

Monday 27 March 2017 - Presentation by Dr Hyde, oncologist at Milton Keynes University Hospital (afternoon meeting)

​​Dr Hyde spoke on treatments for localised and advanced prostate cancer, recent major research trial results and current research trials. The presentation was well received and led to a lively Q and A session.

​Tuesday 7 February 2017- Awareness presentation to Wolverton and Stony Stratford Rotary Club

Monday 6 February 2017 - Presentation by Open University Lecturer Francesco Crea

​At our evening meeting Dr Crea gave a very interesting account of his research at the OU entitled, Targetting the Dark Matter of the Genome to Prevent the Emergence of Advanced Prostate Cancer. This led to a lively Q & A session.

Wednesday 25 January 2017 - Medical Detection Dogs

Together with the Bedford Support Group, some of our members revisited the Medical Detection Dogs Centre at Great Horwood.
